General Manager
Darrel is the shop's brains, IT department, graphic designer, handyman, Jasper Whisperer, and all around cool-headed, even keeled Aquarius we know as our General Manager.
Darrel uses he/him pronouns, for example “Hey, thats Darrel! I recognize him and his bird Jasper!”
You can typically find us very lost and confused without him. **Manager's note: Darrel would be lost and confused without the rest of the staff, not the other way around**
Darrel is half Czech, with some Scottish, Irish, Welsh and British lineage. His favorite food is pasta, and his favorite plant is a tie between Dioon edule and the California Fan Palm.
His plant pro-tip for the people: “You should talk to Susana, Yanira or Hilary--they're the experts.”

Our resident Houseplant Whisperer, Yanira also goes by Yani.
She's our resident social media maven, and she comes alive on our Instagram posts and stories.
She speaks both English and Spanish (as well as fluent "Plant").
Yani's favorite plant (yes, we forced her to choose one) is the 'epipremnum' family (she couldn't pick just one). Her favorite food is Darrel's Vegan Cinnamon Rolls.
Yanira's plant tip for the people: "There is no one right way or wrong way to take care of a houseplant."

Specialist - Sales & Greenhouse
Sue started as a seasonal part-time employee and transitioned into a permanent position at the end of that spring (Yay! Sue, we love you for that!)
Sue's favorite indoor plant, as you can see from the photo, is the rubber tree plant. Her favorite outdoor plant is the hydrangea (there are many varieties of hydrangeas, but she's keeping her favorite one close to her chest).
Like almost all our staff, Sue was a customer before she became staff, so we obviously did not scare her off. She's a gardener, and loves to build a fairy garden every year in her yard.

Markita has been with us since almost the beginning, back in 2009. She is a shining example of how much someone can learn when they love their job.
Not only is she an integral part of all the plants we grow here (especially all the UCP Seguin Grown plants we start from seed), she has become a whiz at keeping the greenhouse in tip top shape.

AKA Micky or “El Padrino.”
Miguel’s hometown calls him El Padrino because during his time away from the Garden Center, Miguel goes to Mexico and helps support families with little ones in his town.
Miguel is a Scorpio, and uses He/Him pronouns. When asked what his favorite food is he said “I don’t discriminate, I’ll eat everything.” Miguel is from Michoacán, he came to the US several years ago. He speaks English + Spanish, and wants to learn Italian.
Miguel’s plant tip for the people: “Take care of nature, and keep it clean. Plants need clean the air that’s why we keep them in our houses.” He also said, “When people come to me when they need advice, I try to give them the best advice I can. I like to help and support people.”
Throughout the year he works in the greenhouse as a horticulturist and all around great help. If you have ever had help loading something (especially those heavy bags of soil) into your vehicle, Miguel is most likely the one who did it.

Joe always comes to work with a
smile (and a joke). When asked why he likes to make wares for the Garden Center, he said," Cause I got a job with a real check". He says that he likes to know about different skills.
Joe also wanted me to tell everyone, "Come help us. If you find something you like, buy it."
